A Composition on Jane Eyre
Jane Eyre, by Charlotte Brontë, was a book that tells the story of a woman’s journey through her early life. It described how she found true happiness. Jane Eyre investigated many different types of people. Each character was unique in their own way and helped to shape Jane throughout her life. After closely examining each character, I decided that Jane was my favorite. I admired her for her determination and restlessness that eventually helped her achieve contentment. Her determination was a vital point in her character because it kept her working for a peaceful state of mind while living on earth. Her restlessness also showed that she would continue to strive for something better in her life as long as she felt she was not perfectly happy. I also made another decision based on the characters’ personalities. I decided that Mrs. Sarah Reed, Jane’s aunt, was my least favorite character because of her unpleasant personality and also because of the way she treated Jane. Mrs. Reed held a grudge against Jane when she was a little girl and also when she grew up, even though Jane was willing to forgive her for her heartless ways. Finally, I decided on which character I would like to have a
In conclusion, Jane Eyre explored many distinct characters. I picked Jane as my favorite character because I thought that she exhibited good qualities, such as compassion, independence, and restlessness that helped her discover true happiness in her life. I disliked Mrs. Reed while reading Jane Eyre, so afterwards, I decided that, indeed, she was my least favorite character. Jane was treated very badly and despised by Mrs. Reed only because she was jealous of her. A good friend needs to exhibit compassion and acceptance. I believe that Bessie Lee had these qualities, and that is why I chose her as who I would like to have as a friend. Bessie always was kind to Jane no matter how others treated her. This showed that she was willing to stand by a friend. She also comforted Jane as a child and as an adult, which showed that she was a true friend. Unlike Jane, Mrs. Sarah Reed, Jane’s aunt, was never satisfied with her life. In fact, she was a very unpleasant person. I chose her as my least favorite character. She displayed unfavorable qualities, such as cruelty, unfairness, jealousy, and disloyalty. Mrs. Reed was cruel and unfair to Jane as a child and even when Jane grew up. When Jane was younger, Mrs. Reed punished her for things that were not her fault. For example, when Jane was beaten by her cousin John, she was punished. Mrs. Reed also showed her cruelty by not raising her children with the love, respect, and discipline that every child deserves from their parents. She was a bad role model for them by mistreating Jane. She also did not provide them with the necessary supervision they needed. As a result, her children grew up to be unhappy people. Mrs. Reed was also a jealous person. She could not accept that her husband was kind to Jane’s mother, his favorite sister, and also that he gave Jane more attention than his own children. Mrs. Reed resented Jane for the actions of others and never accepted her for who she was as an individual. Mrs. Reed also showed that she was a disloyal person. When her husband was sick, he made her promise to watch over Jane as if she was one of her own, and Mrs. Reed promised to do so. Obviously, she broke her promise to her husband. All of Mrs. Reed’s qualities showed that she was a very hateful pe
