If you didn’t wore the clothes you were supposed to wear, you got punished. In 1907, you could see subtle changes, but in between 1908 and 1910, there was an significant redirection in fashion. Paris still remained the capital of fashion, but if an article from Paris was to expensive, you could just buy a copy of it. There was a grow of ready-to-wear clothes in the twentieth century. In Italy, Mussolini became very powerful, and in Germany, it was Hitler who had all the power. But then, the first world war started. Designers had to join the army, and there was a short of material. He used colours like pink, green, yellow, deep red, and brown. This was seen as new, because most women wore mauve, grey or blue. Women had a striking fan with their evening gowns, and they preferred ostrich-feathers. The fan would express your womanliness, and you could pull other peoples attention with it, or hide your face in it. At five o’clock, when tea was served, women wore their tea gowns. Tea gowns permitted women a few hours of relief from tight corsets. Tea gowns were long, flowing, and gave the body room to relax. The number of working women increased significantly between 1900 and 1913, and a two piece costume with a blouse was the perfect solution for office war. Women didn’t wore corsets anymore, but to look thin, they wore special underwear, to correct their figure.
