This book was a good quality novel about a normal businessman getting turned into an undignified liar that illegally. Trying to get a company on its feet and making new relationships along the way. The excitement starts when he realizes that most of the people working for him are really working against him and his wife. In the beginning, Mack MacWray and his wife are the usual loving and adoring couple that have been married for ten years. How long will it take for his wife Paula to realize that Mack is not the simple loving man that she married? Or will she appreciate the fact that Mack is finally getting a backbone.

After that, they get home and try to restart the company. The business is making money and is starting to get better. Meanwhile, Officer Pleasant goes to Cancun to see if he can dig up some specifics about Lars’s death, or what he thinks to be a murder. Mack realizes that he has to pay off a lot of people just to keep their mouths shut, just how Lars used to act. Mack sees himself changing from the man that he was into something that he never thought he would be. He feels like he’s changed into Lars because he has been manipulating people into getting his money back for his company.

The books’ ending is very direct and I was completely not prepared for it. Rita was the one person that I thought would never die. I never read books and this author has gotten me back into it once again. It was very fluid and clear-cut when it came to interpreting it. The single item that I loved about this book was the ending. It was so full of life. It was a complete twist of what I was expecting. This book was amazing with all of the changes. The characters that he made up are incredibly stimulating to read about. I love the way that Hautman writes.
