Patrick Ewing Immigration Project

I agree with the quote because Ewing came from Jamaica, a very poor country. Going from a place where there is no food, now clean water, or no sufficient amount of housing, to a place where there are skyscrapers, food stores around every corner, and apartment complexes 10 stories high, would be a major change in any persons life, almost as big as going to the moon.

Ewing, who came from Jamaica, lived with his family in a little house with barely enough room for all of them to sleep. When he came to America in 1975, he faced a lot of new challenges and hardships. He had to deal with the new language, school, and of course, the racial discrimination. But in school, he towered over the rest of his class, standing at 7 feet and tall. When he lived in Jamaica, he played sports such as cricket, and football, but when he entered his high school years, the road to his professional basketball career began.

Patrick Ewing’s family background had a bigger effect because they made him independent and they believed in him. His parents knew that Patrick would be very successful if he would move to America. They worked hard for Patrick to move. In 1975, Ewing moved to Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he first played basketball. At

Patrick went to the NBA and played for the New York Knicks. Ewing was a big part of the team. As of the end of the 1996 season, he was the highest paid player in the league. Patrick Ewing owns the Knicks’ all-time records having the most points, rebounds, blocks, steals, and both field goal and free throw attempts made.

In my opinion, he was in fact the greatest player in the history of the NBA. "He has a heart of a champion. When you thought about New York, you thought of Patrick Ewing. He came and gave life back into the city." That quote, direct from Michael Jordan himself, explains how many if not all people feel. When you think about the New York Knicks, you think about one name always, Patrick Ewing. He was the heart and soul of that team, for every year the he was there, and there was no avoiding the spirit he brought to the team. During the 80’s and 90’s, he was the most talked about player in society, whether or not you liked basketball. Ewing was the most influential and looked up to player in the NBA, until Michael Jordan on the Bulls, but he was still just as big as him.

Patrick Ewing played a soccer when he was a young boy. He was always athletic. Patrick’s height was a great benefit for basketball. As well as his jumping ability and his long arms blocked a lot of shots. All of these qu
