The Controversy of rock lyrics

Today’s Rock music is a lot different then it was 40 years ago. The topics they sing about are different as well as the sound of the music and, lyrics. Some of the music back then was questionable some of it is now too. People thought that listening to rock gave you an attitude of rebellion. Even when the lyrics weren’t in any way obscene people had that negative attitude toward the music and today people still have that some attitude about rock. Only now, that rock has changed a vast amount a person’s attitude toward rock has probably gotten worse. Bands that sing about death, sadness and, depression has been blamed for being the reason someone commits suicide or murders another person. These bands are considered bands that have no talent whatsoever. Then you have the bands that use obscene language bands’ that people say may have taken it too far and may have used a lot of unnecessary words in their songs. Some people might say that obscene lyrics are straightforwardly obscene, and anyone with good morals will know enough to avoid them, or at least not repeat them to his or her parents. Other people might not care and say that a song is for entertainment, and that obscene lyrics are just a part of getting a bands message


and point across. People say that the real danger that lies in lyrics is that children are being corrupted and don’t even know they are being corrupted. Those kinds of people may think that the only kind of good song is a song that will educate you, and enlighten you. They believe almost all modern music is a decline, and that rock stars are focused on one thing and one thing only, which is to corrupt the children of the world. Then there’s the person that just appreciates the music for what it is, and for what the bands are doing to entertain their audience. The artists go through a lot of work planing, writing, and composing their music. Then spend months recording, and setting up everything they need to get their album out into the public, and then are criticized by people with negative thinking toward their music. Tipper Gore, wife of former Sen. Albert gore. Says that the use of obscenity in rock and roll music is rampant and offensive. New legislation passed requiring Parental advisory stickers on albums containing obscene lyrics. Parents’ say this has helped a lot. And a few record executives willing to discuss this political connection and trying to downplay its significance. There are a lot of parents in Washington, D.C., and other area’s that are very upset by the blatant sexuality and raunchy, explicit language in rock today. And all of them believe that the rock and roll music of today is evil, rebellious, and downgrades a child’s character, and his or her thinking pattern.
