Bob was born on February sixth 1945, in Nine Mile, Jamaica. Nine Mile is a small hamlet located in the rolling hills of tropical Jamaica (Nine Mile alone has more than 200 species of indigenous trees flowering plants). The people of Nine Mile have no running water so they collect rainwater in a giant reservoir located in the center of town. (“Life” bobmarley.com)

In 1957 Bob’s mother moved him from Nine Mile to live in the capital of Jamaica, Kingston. There, he went to Stepney School where he met Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer. Bob, Peter, and Bunny would later be the founding members for the band The Wailing Wailers. Bob, Peter, and Bunny learned the fundamentals of music from Joe Higgs, a man who offered a music clinic for anyone who had enough ambition. (Corvette, 128)

The band began to tour for the new albums in Europe and America, all the while spreading the message of Rastafari and informing the rest of the world of politically corrupt Jamaica. During their tour in Europe Bunny Wailer left the band because he did not like being on the road. Soon after Bunny’s departure Peter left the band to pursue solo work.

The missing melodies of Bunny and Peter were filled in by the I-Threes, a signing group that consisted of Marley’s wife Rita and two of her friends. The follow-up album to Natty Dread, Rastaman Vibration, was released in 76’ and cracked the American charts. In 1977 Bob released what I believe to be the best album of his career, Exodus.

His legacy lives on after his death. His family has released many lost tracks and compilation albums. In 1994, Bob Marley was considered one of the greats when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.(“Inductee” rockhall.com)

After the departure of Peter and Bunny, Bob recruited Al Anderson to play guitar and Carlton Barret to play the drums. They soon got back on tour and started to record more songs.

Bob soon left for Delaware to work with his mother in a steel mill. Bob’s reason for leaving was to make money to fund his new label Wail’n Soul’m. The name honored The Wailers and The Soulettes.(“Life” bobmarley.com)
