How did events in Germany, Italy, and Spain in the 1930

The events in Europe that lead to the start of World War II can be broken into three major categories; The German economy, the rise of Benito Mussolini in Italy, and the civil war in Spain.

After World War I, the German economy was crushed and the Germans were still paying the reparations to both Britain and France. Adolf Hitler takes advantage of this situation and of the German people. He plays on their emotions and becomes the Chancellor of Germany. The first action he takes is to stop reparations to Britain and France. Then he starts to remilitarize Germany which boosts the German economy ten fold. The German people love and support Hitler. In 1935, Hitler sends troops into the Rhineland. Hitler's invasion were bluffs that worked because both Britain and France had a policy of appeasement. The United States always condemned Hitler's actions and there theory on Germany was that if the Soviets and the Nazi's go to war that they will back whoever is winning so they would destroy each other. Until the Nazi-Soviet Non-aggression Pact was signed in 1939 and then United States was worried that these two powers along with the Italians could be a threat to democracy.

With the events in Europe that escalated so quickly and the slow or even lack of response from both the British and United States there is no doubt that World war II erupted so shortly after the first. If the British and French response would have been containment instead of appeasement the second World War could have been delayed or even stopped. The United States response was not any better and probably would have helped the economy earlier.

First, the British response. The British, like Germans and French, were still rebuilding after World War I. So, at first their response, in Europe was appeasement then as Germany started getting stronger the more Britain change their r
