A Bystander In Salem
In the play The Crucible, there are many character that shows some sign of sympathy,but in order for the reader to really see why the character is sympathetic, the character has to demonstarte his/her external and internal conflicts within himself/herself. The conflicts within the society and his/her emotions, helps the reader get more invovled and feels more sympathy about that character. The most sympathethic character in the play is Abigial Williams.Abigail Williams is a 18 year old girl who becomes an orphan, when her parents were killed by Indians right in front of her eyes. She then comes to live with her uncle, Rev. Parris, who does not have any interest in children, or talent with them. Although he has one of his own, Betty . So it would show that ever since Abigail was little, she yearn for attention, for she has seen some horrible things at night. As she has stated, “I saw Indians smash my dear parents’ heads on the pillow next to mine, and I have seen some reddish work done at night” (20). At an age so young, Abigail must have been scared.
