Calpurnia
Calpurnia was a very intelligent black woman. She could read, write, and talk with intelligence, which back then was uncommon for a black person to be able to do. Calpurnia even taught Jem, Scout, and her son Zeebo how to read. “Did you teach him out of primer, like us? No, I made him read a page of the bible everyday.” (pg.125) Although she could talk like a white person she did not always do it. “…What if I talked white folks’ talk at church…?” (pg.126) She knew there was a time and place for everything.
