ybe sleeping with the hooker will give him some satisfaction and give him a sense of love. What Holden later comes to understand is that he doesn’t wants to have meaningless sex with some girl who is just as lost and confused as he is. In New York Holden goes to the Wicker Bar and gets completely wasted. At that point Holden is lonely and thinks that he has lucked out on any happiness. He tries to escape and find happiness in alcohol, but all it does is get him drunk and even more confused than before. The problem with Holden is that he doesn’t know what he wants or what he wants to do to satisfy his needs, he just knows that he can’t find either in meaningless sex or drinking binges.

Holden lived in New York but never really cared for the things that it had to offer, like the bars and the shows and the busy-lonesome streets. For example, Holden lives near 5th Avenue (the Rodeo dr. of New York). It’s a place that people would die to live in because it’s a social scene to be and to be seen. The thing with Holden is that he could care less about the materialistic living of that lifestyle. Holden went to Radio City and couldn’t stand the ice-skating spectators or the singing angels and all the religious like Christmas fest
