In the 40s, their was a solid image of marriage. There was a specfic image of what the husband should uphold. To provide for the family would be the number one priority. He was also the protector and to handle everything to make sure the family could survive. On the other hand the mother had far more domestic duties. Her first prority would be to raise the children. Children would be a mothers job to keep under control. She should also clean the house and cook for her husband and family.
