Cell phones

Now a days in the world a huge global issue is cell phones. Many teenagers, most if not all, have cell phones. In school cell phones have been banned, but nobody knows when there will be an emergency. For an example the Columbine High School shooting, students were or would be able to call the police. Students should be able to have cell phones on campus as long as they have them turned off and they are not a distraction. This would be safer for schools for two reason. First if there is an emergency students will be able to contact parents faster than having the school be held responsible for contacting the parents of thousands of students. Also transportation, schools are very strict about having students on campus after school hours.
Dealing with emergencies in case of one students would be able to contact parents quicker. This would also lessen the amount of responsibility on teachers and the school. By having cell phones the school would not have the problem of every student calling a parent. Students would be able to contact parents within minutes. If there was a power failure then how would a contact be made? The thing is that most emergencies are not planned but happen unexpectedly, therefore schools and students would be prepared. An example is if the school was on fire and burning down, if people were injured and needed medical attention there would be no way to call for help. The school would be held liable for any incident not reported to a parent.
Transportation in school coming to and fro is always hectic. Many students are active in sports, clubs, or committees who often have meetings after school. Afterwards many students do not drive so they usually have to call a parent to come get them. Phones in the office, the attendants will not let students use the phones. Many schools have pay phones, but with that causes problems. Pay phones shut off and or don't work properly and they cost fifty cents to use.
