Native Americans
Boys and girls my 2 groups are on the Northwestern Indians and the Southwestern Indians. My group A) is the Northwestern Indians and my group B) is the Southwestern Indians. I chose the Northwestern Indians because I live in the Northwestern part of the United State and I wanted to learn how the first Americans lived where I am living right now. I chose the Southwestern Indians because I wanted to learn how the first Americans survived in that hot weather. The Northwestern Indians lived beside the Pacific Ocean. They built solid houses from wooden planks. Some were covered with carvings, like the Haida houses. Their clothes were mostly made out of buffalo and deer skins. Their soft shoes were called moccasins. The men and women wore differently. They usually catch and get their foods from rivers and seas. The Southwestern Indians lived in hot, dry, desert country. They used clay and grass to make sun-dried bricks called adobe. They used these bricks to build houses. T
The Northwestern Indians carved tall tree trunks. These were totem poles. They told the stories of the tribe. Nets and spears were fine for catching fist in the rivers. Sometimes men went to sea in a big canoe. They used hair from the dogs to make blankets. There were gifts and food for everyone. There was singing and dancing and racing on the sand. The Northwestern and the Southwestern Indians are alike the way they planted and the foods they ate. They both lived in the western part. he houses were four or five stories high. Ladders led from one story to the next. Spaniards called these people Pueblo Indians. In Spanish, pueblo means village. There was very little rain. Water for plants had to be carried from a nearby stream. Some tribes dug ditches to carry water to the fields. They raised corn, beans, and squash. The corn was dried on the hot, flat roofs.
