The Qur'an (Koran), or Muslim bible, teaches men and women that modesty is most important. Islam has no fixed standard as to the style of dress or type of clothing that Muslims must wear, but there are requirements that must be met. Men wear different things when wanting to be identified. It is custom for a man to cover his head with a turban or hat. The word turban is thought to have originated among Persians living in the area now known as Iran, who called the headgear a dulband. Muslim religious elders, often wear a turban wrapped around a cap known in Arabic as a kalansuwa. These caps can be spherical or conical, colorful or solid white, and their styles vary widely from region to region. White is identified by some Muslims to be the holiest turban color, based on legends that the prophet Mohammed wore a white turban. Green, is identified to be the color of paradise, and is favored by Muslims. Muslim men also wear all black to be identified as a direct descendant of Mohammed. (Not Without My Daughter)
