“Yond Cassius has a lean and hungry look,He thinks too much; such men are dangerous.” (1.2.194-195) Caesar says this to his devoted friend, Mark Antony. He tells him he is suspicious of Cassius. He says he distrusts lean men, because lean people are power hungry and not satisfied, they always want more. While alternatively, fat people are happy with what they have and do not want more. He compares Cassius with Antony. Antony who loves plays, laughter and music, as opposed to Cassius who reads too much, is never entertained, watches men and their motives very closely, and never smiles. He is suspicious of Cassius. This is interesting because it shows Caesar has the ability to see through people. He knows Cassius is devious, but he is so arrogant, he ignores the warnings. Caesar thinks he is so powerful and G-d like, he is afraid of no one.
“This was the noblest Roman of them all.” (5.5. 68) This passage is beautiful because Antony illustrates the theme of betrayal. As he is giving the eulogy for Caesar’s death, he shows the crowd all the places on Caesar’s body where each conspirator had stabbed him. He points to the wound that Brutus made, and reminds the crowd that Brutus was Caesar's friend whom he loved and trusted most of all. Because of this love and trust, “This was the unkindest cut of all”. He than beautifully describes that Caesar loved him so much, that when Brutus stabbed him he was in such disbelief, the blood followed the dagger out of his body to see if it actually was Brutus who was killing him In this quote, Antony sums up the character of Brutus.
