I. General Arguments on the Permanence of Racism

Racism has many components. One of the components is attitude. Attitudes change daily. Racism has the potential to change with those attitudes but it appears to sit still at various periods in time because cooperation between the races is needed but there has been no proper strategy for absolutely achieving this cooperation. I agree with the consensus of the population that believes that racism is permanent. In the book entitled Faces at the Bottom of the Well, racism is defined as an integral, permanent, and indestructible component of this society. Bell makes his claim from personal experience and recognition of the problems that plague his race here in America. Bell believes that even when nonracist practices might bring a benefit, whites may rely on discrimination against blacks as a unifying factor and a safety device valve for economic frustrations.

On the other hand, one can disagree with Bell and Argue that racism is not permanent. For something to be permanent, it must be lasting or be intended to last indefinitely. Racism was created, and creations can be destroyed. Therefore, racism does not have to remain forever. It is a power struggle where one group is winning while the other group is perishing. The losing group must maintain composure. The losing group must beat the winning group with their minds and not with their hearts. Our hearts are full of hate and pain because of our untold past and our struggles to be treated as equals. Blacks must suppress our emotions and win the game with our minds and actions. Once there are enough winners holding power and exercising it the right way, we can overthrow racism. The history of voting rights law in this country demonstrates that the political protections offered by the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution allow some deference to Blacks to help them elect their candidates of choic
