In addition to the differences between their writing tactics would be their opening statements. Allen starts off by stating that the percentage of Hispanic children dropping out these days is astounding. She goes on to say how programs would benefit the children where schools have failed to provide a good education for them. To most people, myself included, there is no captivating factor that would make you want to hear what she has to say. It is mainly a bland introduction and it basically turns you off to the rest of the paper. On the contrary, Miner strategically opens her essay with a question that is bound to cause emotional response, ¡°Have I got a deal for you!,¡± any person who hears these words are automatically at attention.¡°Worried about these tough economic times?¡± is her next question and the audience finds themselves secretly nodding their heads. She continues, ¡°There¡¯s more than a billion dollars of Uncle Sam¡¯s money to be made tutoring poor kids.¡± Ironically she makes another statement, as if those questions aren¡¯t enough. Miner adds ¡°No experience? No problem.¡± Miner¡¯s resounding questions are just some of the tactics that I noticed being used.(Miner 1) Additionally, it seems as if Miner knew which questions would arouse interest on the negative effects of vouchers and how taxpayer money could be used more wisely. In summation of their papers Allen, who had primarily talked about how the vouchers affect Hispanics, stated ¡°To have choice in education is to have power. American parents need that power to ensure that education serves their children successfully¡±.( Allen ) The Hispanic culture is just one of many cultures that make up the term Americans ,therefore, Allen should have mentioned other races in order to maintain a broader audience. Miner included everyone which makes her paper all the more appealing and fundamentally helpful.
