Women are the mothers, wives, daughters and sometimes saviors in so many Greek myths. These are the roles of the more common heroine in Greek Mythology. In this paper I am not trying to reinforce female stereotypes, what I am trying to do is show that the roles they played were instrumental in myth. These roles might seem small or menial to some but they are really some of the most significant in the realm of Myth.

One of the foremost heroines is Alcmene, Mother of Herakles, Daughter of Electryon and wife to Am

Another example of an uncommon heroine in Greek Myth would be Hippolyta. Although she was said to have died at the hand of Heracles when he thought he was getting double-crossed. She was actually a character in Myth that I think was meant to inspire. She was the queen of the Amazons and a fearless leader. The amazons were seen as fierce women who were merciless and very feminist but here model was one that women respected and men feared. I see her as a motivational figure in Greek myth telling woman that things can be accomplished and woman can be empowered. Her mention in the text is sparse and labels her a traitor but this is in respect to other males. In the world of the female they were placed on high.

I believe what I have revealed with these three stories is the importance that those people of ancient myth saw in many woman. They were sources of inspiration and life. I also believe that they were never honored the same way that heroes were, they were seen in a different light, they gained much respect for the things that they did but
