The rest of Poe’s life was also hard. The pattern for Poe's career was success as an artist and editor but failure to satisfy his employers and to secure a livelihood (Regan, Robert). He was stuck in poverty, and he never really settled down because he had to move around to find work. The middle part of his life was when he produced most of his work. In the later part of his life he again experienced death, this time it was his wife, Virgina, died in 1847 (Regan, Robert). After that he lived the remaining part of his life alone and unhappy and he died this way. During the time after his wife died he did produce some good work. Some of it, such as “The Raven”, was very dark, as you would expect from a man in his situation. Still despite all the hardship in his life Poe’s work was viewed as excellent by nearly everyone.
