Observation Essay: The Jungles of EcuadorOn a 12hour bus ride and then a 20 hour canoe ride in the jungles of Ecuador there is a Village called Nuevo Rocafuerte. We went to live there with my parents in the year 1995. I remember the canoe ride. We packed the canoe early one morning with essential items. Being a 16 year old teenager I wasn’t very happy leaving civilization for this remote area. I was still getting over typhoid fever that I contacted 2 weeks earlier. I still couldn’t eat anything solid. Going down the river eating baby cereal lying on a wooden bench, I started missing my bed and a decent bathroom. The only bathroom that I had was the outdoors. That night we arrive at some native’s house with no walls just a floor and a roof and asked them if we could stay there. You could imagine my dismay to see no beds or electricity just hard wood floors and a thatched roof and tons of mosquitoes. I was so exhausted and wet. I grabbed a blanket and a mosquito net and some dry clothes and tried to get some sleep. I prayed that night that the next day would be better. The next morning, I smelled grilled fish and went to investigate where the smell was coming from
The crocodile was delicious. It tasted like chicken and the texture was of lobster. The jungle to teach the natives about God. My brothers loved the idea at the beginning with My parents are missionaries and they volunteered to take their family and move to the which was a fermented drink made out of yucca and corn.
