"A Different kind of Christmas"

"A Different Kind of Christmas", is about a son of a southern aristocrat planter, he is sent to Princeton to pursue an education. There, Fletcher the aristocrats son is influenced by a group of Quaker brothers. The Quaker brothers show Fletcher the evils of slavery, in a short visit to their Quaker community on a weekend. They bestow Fletcher by how slaves can cope with their freedom once they have escaped from their former plantation home. Also the slaves see themselves as equal to everyone else. One slave even tries to shake Fletcher's hand. Fletcher showed great discomfort with the fact that a black man shook his hand, because Fletcher being an aristocrat planter felt superior to the former slave. After Fletcher returned home he was very confused with himself. Fletcher's grades began to drop, and the dean of Princeton had to intervene to help Fletcher get back on track. It wasn't until one of Fletcher's professors brought up Fredrick Douglass a famous free black abolitionist, that Fletcher realized that slavery was wrong, and Fletcher himself could do something about it. From there Fletcher goes to the head of the Underground Railroad or the UGGR. There Fletcher asks to help out their cause by being a conductor. At first the head of the UGGR isn't sure if he can trust Fletcher, but he asks Fletcher his name and where he lives. He looks into Fletcher and all checks out, and he sends Fletcher on a mission in his own town, to make a break out, on Christmas Eve. Fletcher returns to his home two weeks before Christmas, where Fletcher established himself as a huge proslavery person who will someday take over his father's plantation. Fletcher meets his accomplice on a ride home from a party; his name was Harpin John, a famous black barbequer, and harmonica player. They plan the escape set for Christmas Eve. On Christmas Eve a patrolman on duty discovers their plans that night. They think that Harpin John had something to do with the breakout so they send out a request to go find him, and question him.
