Communication can be defined by some as the act of giving, especially information. To be a communicative is to be free with information. Both of these definitions describe how information is transferred from one person to another, from culture to culture, from one world to the next. The theories about this communication and how they play central roles in our lives are all limited in their ability to have relevance in our individual lives. Many of these theories can accurately examine, explain, and describe communication patterns, and methods about society in general, but can communication theories accurately, and completely explain, and examine the deeply undetectable low-level non-verbal interpersonal communication and other forms of low-level interpersonal communication such as emotional communication? The theories that deal with interpersonal dynamics are helpful in understanding how and why people communicate, but they are too descriptive their explanation. The layperson may not understand what homeostasis is and how it outlines the state equilibrium, what punctuation is and how the concept will help understand where sentences begin and end, what meta communication is, how root terms or dialectics play a part in their lives, or how processes will shape their ideas about change. Many of these ideas are not testable in the real world, which means they cannot be detected, measured or critically examined. This underscores the idea that interpersonal communication happens on such a low level that it becomes impossible to predictably detect, and analyze. In defense of the many theories about interpersonal communication, they do explain some general characteristics about behavior and their relevance to an individual’s life.
