The theories that deal with interpersonal dynamics are helpful in understanding how and why people communicate, but they are too descriptive their explanation. The layperson may not understand what homeostasis is and how it outlines the state equilibrium, what punctuation is and how the concept will help understand where sentences begin and end, what meta communication is, how root terms or dialectics play a part in their lives, or how processes will shape their ideas about change. Many of these ideas are not testable in the real world, which means they cannot be detected, measured or critically examined. This underscores the idea that interpersonal communication happens on such a low level that it becomes impossible to predictably detect, and analyze. In defense of the many theories about interpersonal communication, they do explain some general characteristics about behavior and their relevance to an individual’s life.
