Whoopie

Whoopie Goldburg is an amazing actress and comedian that has brought a lot of female comedic heriosm into present day media. Her life and her movies are intersting learn and interpret. Goldburg’s talent is clearly shown through her life experiences, and the characterists that she possessed as a comedic hero.

“This brazenm unabashed comedienne, who moves effortlessly between stand-up comedy, telivision and feature films, first made her mark with the movie going public in the Color Purple” (ACME WHOOPIE1). Caryn Elaine Johnson “Whoopi” was born in the Chelsea projects of Manhattan on November 13, 1955. She was born under the sun in Scorpio (Mr. Showbiz). She grew up in the theatre, and at the age of eight, was performing with the Children’s Program at the Hudson Guild and the Helena Rubinstein Children’s Theatre. She soon proclaimed herself a hippie in the 60’s and 70’s, dropped out of highschool, and appeared in several Broadway chorsus, such as Hair, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Pippen. (Mr Showbiz1)

Goldburg then moved west in 1975, landing in San Diego. She was in many of the San Diego Reporatory Theatre productions. She also began to do standup and improvisation for the group called

Goldburg suddenly became the ritual clown in the convent society. She is like the scapegoat that changes lives. She uses humor to bring herself down to a simple level, where there is a deeper meaning. Goldburg is a realist in Sister Act that celebrates being thrown into a whole new society by using the convent to heighten her comedic experience. She carrys out jokes that are actually life lessons; morals for her own life.

Goodness and comedy prevail in the end when “Sister Mary Clerance”, portrayed by Whoopi Goldburg uses Realism to celebrate life, becomes a ritual clown for the convent society, and happens upon wishfulfillment in her situation at the convent. Sister Act exemplifies the comedic heroism of Goldburg, and what actual characteristics show in a comedy.

A singer in Reno, Goldburg is runnig away from mob members that want her dead. “Deloris Can Cartier” (Whoopi Goldburg) is sent to a convent, then teaches the nun’s choir to sing showtunes to the message of God. When she was dressed like a showgirl, and is taunted by the superiors of the convent, there was humorous tension. Her first monologueint he convent uses several vulgur words which showed that she was larger thatn life as she celebrated the body of who she was becoming. Goldburg brings in humorous doubts about the convent when she states in the movie: “But you’re married to the big J.C., and that’s, you know, Catholic, or something” (Sister Act). “She fi
