Until recently, environmental pollution problems have been local and minor because of the Earth's own ability to absorb and purify minor quantities of pollutants. The industrialization of society, the introduction of motorized vehicles, and the explosion of the population, is factors contributing toward the growing pollution problem. During the past hundred years, due to new technologies, the world has changed in many ways. Some changes have improved the quality of life and health for many people. Others have affected people’s health care adversely causing different kinds of pollution that have harmed the environment. Pollution is the contamination of the environment by man-made substances or energy that have adverse effects on living or non-living matter. This contamination of air, water, or soil material interferes with human health and the functioning of ecosystem. Pollution is very harmful to the environment and to the ozone layer.
