XAVIER NAIDOO
As Polish music shops are flooded by mainly a not very demanding music of American, British and Polish artists, German musicians are unfortunately unknown in Poland. Not everyone has cable TV with German music channels like VIVA, VIVA2 or ONYX and that is why the songs performed by our western neighbours are not very common among Poles. This is a sad truth that names like Die Toten Hosen, Die Ärzte, Rammstein, Söhne Mannheims, Nena, Sabrina Setlur, Herbert Grönemeier or Xavier Naidoo sound very exotic to most of us. Let us focus on the last mentioned artist, his career and songs. This review is a tribute to Xavier Naidoo, my personal favourite, considered to be the best 'young German singer. The album “Nicht von dieser Welt”, released in 1998 was his music debut and had astonished everybody by Xavier’s silk voice and by his calm ballads. Next cds being Live (1999), Zion (recorded in 2000 together with Söhne Mannheims, his hometown’s band), a double album Alles für den Herrn / Zwischenspiel (2002) and Alles Gute vor uns live (2003) confirmed his status of Germany’s greatest pop singer. He has also recorded many songs featuring famous artists (as Reamonn, Sabrina Setlur, Edo Zanki, Jan Delay, RZA or Sékou) and lots of singles (i.e. “Freisein”, “Seine Straßen”, Wo willst du hin?”, “Abschied nehmen” or the latest hit “Ich kenne nichts”). He reappeared on the music stage with his album Alles für den Herrn / Zwischenspiel after a pause of
