Nothing in life is worth the sacrifices that you have to make in order to gain and have power, over anything and everything. This power eventually leads to other sacrifices that may lead to the person giving in to evil urges. In the Lord of the Flies and The Firm, a close examination at the main characters reveals that when man wants something bad enough, he is willing to go to any extent to have that thing. It is at this point that he is vulnerable and blinded and may be capable of evil actions. The temptations that power has, makes a person do things that they wouldn’t otherwise do and as they go further and further, they are more blinded by the power and are closer to evil methods. Also power can ruin many lives not only of the person seeking the power. “Too much power can be murder to resist”. Finally there are the consequences of power that the person has to deal with, whether they want to or not. The main consequence is that power brings out evil in a person that they may otherwise be able to surpass. These relations of power and evil are all evident in the above mentioned books The Lord of the Flies and The Firm and are great examples of how power can be evil. The consequences of evil have long-term effects on people. These feelings, especially of regret, stick in the person’s mind and then take over, so they have no control over anything that they do.
