Romeo and Juliet’s love eventually leads to their death
Through out the course of English literature, there have been numerous works on love. The word love tends to portray a image of happiness and joy, but in many plays and novels it is the complete opposite. Instead love is often shown in its tragic form, resulting in the death of one or more characters. The best known tragedy of love ever written is the play ‘Romeo and Juliet’. Romeo and Juliet is the perfect example demonstrating the power and passion associated with love. Two star-crossed lovers destined to never be together. Even though Romeo and Juliet are from two rival families, they were determined to express their love despite the consequences that would follow. The forcefulness of their love, their love being a cause of violence and the inevitability of fate results in Romeo and Juliet’s deaths. This is shown in act three scene three when Romeo waves a knife in Friar Lawrence’s cell and threatens to kill himself, because he has been torn away from Juliet. Juliet commits a similar act in act three scene six, also to Friar Lawrence. Her willingness to commit suicide is confirmed when she says, “If all else fail, myself have power to die” (Act 3, Scene 5, Line 242). This choice turns love from a expression of deep feeling into its tragic and ugly form. Despite this course of action, it is the only way for Romeo and Juliet to express the depth of their love. Evidently, this wanting of suicide is a result of their love and in the end a double suicide does occur. Romeo and Juliet’s deat
