Colonel Aureliano Buendia
One Hundred Years of Solitude includes a great amount of repetition in the novel, but none more great than the repetition of the names of the characters. The names not only repeat in the way they sound but also in many characteristics. The first Aureliano, Colonel Aureliano Buendia, displayed a model for the others. He can be seen, as well as the other Aurelianos, to display a mind that becomes withdrawn from the world, yet an understandable clear mind. From the passage leading to Colonel’s death, it can be seen his resemblance to the other characters of the book bearing his name. This passage deals with his withdrawal in a very obvious manner. “When he said it he did not raise his eyes from the first little fish of the day”. (Pg. 284) This quote clearly expresses colonel’s withdrawal from the civilization, and especially his own family. (Pg. 284) Without a structured and lasting memory, it only adds to the impact of not connecting with other people and furthers him into withdrawal. His actions either withdraw from her or aggressively try to take her. Aureliano Babilonia starts off with a very lucid mind, he was simply scared of doing anything and always secluded, especially after Amaranta Ursula left. He had lack of anything and stayed at home, learning an incomprehensible amount of information. Jose Arcadio Segundo as well took up the parchments and remained secluded and it’s very understandable why he does it, and he stays clear and his mind kept sound. This with
