The United States of America has been called a giant melting pot. America is called such name because of the diversity among the people culturally. When America was first established as a country, immigrants came here with the hopes of becoming free men. The native lands of these foreigners had not provided suitable living conditions; so many people opted to have a better life by immigrating to America. Due to these races

Shutting the borders in America would hinder the path of immigration and destroying the economy within the United States. The World Trade Center and Pentagon attacks brought the people of America to think that all immigrants are bad and need to be screened whenever entering the United States for possible terrorists. People never thought that this could possibly affect the economy or the foundation of which America started upon. Immigrants bring help and usefulness to the nation called the United States of America. America brings freedom and choices to the immigrants. Altering the relationship between country and the people will change the perception of the free land to the rest of the world.

The United States has established too many immigration laws. The increasing number of laws results in more obstacles for the foreigners to overcome. Aliens sneaking past secured ports of entry are an example of an obstacle. Government agents are responsible for guarding the nation against these deceptive foreigners. When citizens hear of illegal immigrants or terrorists entering the U.S., the blame is placed on the laws of the country dealing with immigration. The reality is that the laws are working out; the people who carry them out are not getting the job done (Roberts 46). People must consider that immigration is a privilege and not a right. Immigration gives aliens the responsibility for them to give help to the country that was emigrated to (Moncure Duncan 60). The American government wants to place more regulations on immigration for the purpose that illegal immigrants or terrorists are entering the country. Agents are already stationed at entry ports to search the people who are arriving. If problems should occur, the blame should be placed on the agents who are checking and not the laws. The laws are working, but they are not enforced. Congress should also consider that immigrants bring beneficiaries to America. If the government continues to legislate, immigrants would not be able to enter the country to bring help. Past laws have respected the benefits brought into the country without having heavily guarded ports.

It is correct that immigrants help the economy of America; however, these aliens create perils in the labor force and welfare system. Computer companies within the United States have hired foreign-born workers to replace other native citizens because of a “cheaper workforce.” Seemingly, the foreigners would be of better quality, but the workers replaced are more suited for the job (Ling-Ling 68). The United States is overlooking the horizon of mass immigration. Though more immigrants are needed, “mass immigration essentially means a greater demand on the infrastructure, and, therefore, government budgets.” Welfare is an example of a type of government budget (Ling-Ling 70-1).
