David Wilmot

 
 
David Wilmot was born in Bethany, PA on January 20, 1814. At a fairly young age, he worked for a political newspaper in Towanda, PA. He finished school at eighteen and found work at a law office in Wilkes-Barre until he was given the right to practice law on his own. His career in law led to a position in the United States Congress. He was elected into the House of Representatives in 1845, where he prospered notably as a congressman. He rounded out his career as judge of the U.S. Court of Claims in 1863.
