The moral foundation of feminism is the assertion that women are, and historically always have been, oppressed by men. Feminist ideology is that society is organised into a patriarchal system in which men have advantage over women.It is a social theory and political movement, which is primarly based on and motivated by the experience of women, as it provides a view of gender inequality and promotes the rights,issues and interests of women. Theorists aim to understand how inequality occurs and focus on aspects such as gender politics,power relations and sexuality. Activists for feminism push for social, economic and politcal equality between the two sexes. Feminism is generally said to have begun in the 19th century as people increasingly adopted the perception that women are oppressed in a male-centered society. Through 2 many articles I researched and studied which were mentioned above, “A reversal of roles” and “”Myth of women’s oppression” I have learnt about feminism and how it has changed over time. The 2nd article mentions the changes with women in the workforce and explains how women’s oppression could in fact have been exaggerated over time. “A reversal of roles” shows how due to feminism and the change in women’s attitudes towards work that the roles in relationships have been changing, and in some instances, the positions in relationships have swapped. In the response to the article on reversals of roles, “Women be warned: role reversal can cost you dearly”, which is written by a woman who was in a relationship where there was a reversal of roles. The woman writes about how with reversals of roles come a lot of negatives. “While women are marching into the workforce men are not marching into the kitchen. The house is often cold and the dinner is usually waiting for you to cook it.” This is a quote from the response and it shows how that the reversal of roles has maybe had a negative affect on their lives as they now may be managing both roles in the relationship.
