Before going into direct explanation, it is best to introduce the difficulty of giving one answer to this question. First of all politics should be best introduced and related to a way of life led by human beings. In fact politics has a deeper root than most people assume and to explain this clearly we are going to refer to Aristotle’s book “The Politics”, in which he states that “man in nature is a political animal” . What Aristotle meant by that is that human interaction in it’s self constitutes what politics is. For example the simple notion ‘survival of the fittest’ is the way how human led their life in the early stages of survival. First they were individualistic. Then they began to form groups and then form communities and so on until we reach this present time and day. The processes in which they progressed is what politics is all about. That is why there should be no surprise that the word politics is derived from the Greek word

The intent of offering the various definitions of politics is not to confuse but to show the variety of areas that it covers and how they are all interrelated. What is noticeable about all these definitions is that politics is always related to power and authority, in fact both Dahl and Morgenthau agree to this. And this is why politics is the struggle for power. Not only that, but it is the nature and the practice of power. In order to prove this argument we have to understand the importance of power and how is it related to politics.

Another good example is presidential elections. The method of power used here is media and its ability to influence people’s opinion to either vote for president A or B. The method of politics used in election is persuasion and media power. The final example could be seen in Samer El Karanshawy’s book Class, Family and Power in an Egyptian Village. Here El-Karanshawy gives us and example of how the people who control the means of production control the politics of the small village Izbat al-Bably. This town is one of the most important textile industry zones in Egypt. El-Karnashawy explains that people who control the means of production are the wealthy industrialist and he points out how they always end up wining elections that are held. This book is very useful because it explains how power is used in politics and goes further by showing that class structure and identity in its self gives power to individuals which allows them to use their influence to accomplish their agenda goals.

Now let’s take another example which will relate power to politics: How does power take role in two communities composed of 500 individual situated in the same region X, which is limited in natural resources. Natural resources (what ever it might be) can only last for another 200 years. Let us assume that community B is militarily advanced and community A is not. As well, community A has double the birth rate of community B. It is at this point where politics and power are interrelated and their roles played out. A power struggle will eventual happen for the following reason. It begins with the realization that natural resources are limited. Logic and reason only presumes that community A should have more resources available to them then community B due to their high population. In realization of this, community B sends its military to take control of these resources. The reason for doing so is to gain advantage over community B. This advantage gives them the power to control these natural resources, thus directly controlling community A. And it is through this power that they can set the terms on community A as they best see fit. Usually these terms always benefits the ones who are in power. Now let’s presume community A starts to build up its military power. This could be seen as a threat and to stop this building of arms, community B can send its military to put an end to it. However it takes a political approach and decides to stop shipments of resources to community A (since it controls all the natural resource in this area) causing mass starvation and sickness. Here community B did not use military force but political force which is power after all. In either case, the community who controls the natural resources is the one who ends up with the most power. In this example power exist in two other forms: military power and control over natural resources.
