The Monster Within
“Oh, please, dear Lord, let today be my last. My heart, soul, and mind know that I’m not like anyone else. I can’t accept myself, it’s so hard to change, to love myself and give up. Why? Why can’t I take care of myself for my own happiness? I keep thinking that someone will come into my life and make this monster, this self-hatred, go away. But I’m only fooling myself.” Cynthia explained that she had been puking after she ate for the last 10 years. But having nothing in her stomach and then puking wasn’t the way she went at it. She ate and ate and ate and then would make it all come out, either taking laxatives or making herself binge. Whenever she felt alone, she lived only to destroy herself. Cynthia used to be all big into going to church, and everything until she started “slowly killing herself.” One day, a lady named, Joan called Cynthia to have her call a Christian clinic in Texas. She knew that deep down; she was killing herself, but slowly. She would spend so much money on groceries, even if she couldn’t afford it. She then called the clinic, as she told the secretary to “please, hurry. I can’t hold on mu
Marta was her occupational therapist who was small, cute and spunky. Marta had Cynthia go in a room and write about herself and what she saw. She sat and wrote…“Oh, I hate you, Cynthia, I hate you. Look at you. You’re an ugly slob. No self control. You are nothing. You just ate lunch and the food will turn to fat. Fat, Cynthia, and you can’t get rid of it here. You are so gross. I hate my face. I hate my chest. I hate my hips. I hate me.” She started crying and made herself stop writing. After more binging, purging, and fasting, she called Mike Moore, “the guy that would save her life.” She explained to him that she wanted to die, and that she was at the point that she was desperate. The next day, she drove to the hospital which was 6 hours away. Chapter Two: One Last Chance- Behind Locked Doors When everyone walked out, Cynthia and Carrie held each other as they both cried. Cynthia gained enough guts to talk to her boss, Gary. He told her that he was proud of her, which then he added that she was young and that she could overcome this. Chapter Three: You’re Going to Save Me?
