Macbeth in contrast to Symbolizm

In the play Macbeth, time is of much importance, however it is not the only novel of his that uses this symbol. One example of this is when Macbeth is approached by the weird sisters and told that he will be king “hereafter”. Because of this, Banquo wonders if the witches really can look into the “seeds of time”. Another example of time being used as a symbol is when Macbeth says that he is going to kill Duncan, king of Scotland. When this all was going on, Macbeth declares that “ Present fears are less than horrible imaginings”. From this, Macbeth decides that “Time and the hour runs through the roughest day”. Blood is one of the most significant, and most used symbols in Macbeth. It starts being used as a symbol in the second scene of the play with the bloody sergeant, who’s “gashes cry for help” and runs all the way through the end with the final scene where Macbeth battles Macduff to the death. Also, when Macbeth sees Banquo’s apparition at his banquet, he declares that he’s “stepp’d so far’ in blood that should I wade no more, Returning were as tedious as go o’er”. At the end of the play, Macbeth’s head is displayed on a spike at the top of the castle to show their defeat over him. As it was said by Jan Kott who wrote Shakespeare Our Contemporary, “the subject of the play is murder, and the prevalence of blood ensures that we all shall never forget the physical realities in metaphysical overtones”.
