Racism

“Racism is a human problem and a crime that is absolutely so ghastly that a person who is fighting against racism is well within his rights to fight against it by any means necessary until it is eliminated” (Malcolm X, American civil rights activist, speech). Racism is a human problem, one that we think we cannot control, but in reality we can control it but only to a certain extent. Although you may not look at yourself as being raciest, you probably judge someone because of past experiences, and or you hold it against them. We need to fight against racism, not fight with it, there are too many people getting picked on, harassed, killed, sent to jail, and whatever else the case may be due to racist people, which is absolutely not fair. Therefore we should come together as one nation, no matter the color of your skin, or your hair. We need to come together, and overcome the power of raciest people. Racism to me is discriminating against a certain race of people, or culture, because of one thing, that happened, and made you judge every person of that race the same way. There are four main types of racism; spatial economics, institutional, internalized, and individual racism. Although these four types may differ, they all have o

Racism is throughout all areas of employment. For many members of oppressed racial and ethnic groups, there is always depression, wither economically, or emotionally, or mentally. Often people of color are the last hired, and the first fired. There is a growing shortage of manufacturing and other jobs that people of color have historically held. In February of 1995 the unemployment rate for African Americans was 10.1% as compared to 4.7% for white Americans (Berry,1995). The unemployment rate for adolescents of color is almost four times that of white adolescents. “When blacks are unemployed, they are considered lazy and apathetic. When whites are unemployed, it’s considered a depression”. (Jesse Jackson,1941).More than enough employment areas consist of white men and women, not of color. “We all need a little color in our life” (unknown, The Shadow that Scares Me). “Where justice is denied, where poverty is enforced, where ignorance prevails, and where any one class is made to feel that society is in an organized conspiracy to oppress, rob, and degrade them, neither persons or property will be safe” (Fredrick Douglas, April 1886). “I think the back man in America wants to be recognized as a human being; and it’s almost impossible for one who has enslaved another to bring to accept the person who used to pull his plow, who used to be an animal, subhuman, who used to be considered as such by him - it’s almost impossible for that person in his right mind to accept that person as his equal”. (Malcolm X, The Open Mind). Which is absolutely true. Think about it, if you owned a hoarse, and this hoarse carried you places, pulled your plow, and used the bathroom outside, would accept the fact that this hoarse could be as you, eat as you, run as you, talk as you? You couldn’t right? Well that’s how the white man thought back in the 1930’s. Racism is by all means all over, school, public, even employment.

Racism is the outcome of, who you grew up with, what you were taught (education), your employment, and past history which all influence you to do or believe one thing or another. “For the white man to ask the black me if he hates him is just like the rapist asking the raped, or the wolf asking the sheep, “Do you hate me?” The white man is in no moral position to accuse anyone else of hate!” (Malcolm X, The Autobiography of Malcolm X). Although I never considered myself raciest, I have learned that just by not talking to someone because of the was they dressed, or the way they talked, or how they had their hair done, is in fact being raciest. Although there is no solution to the problem of racism in America, I believe that we are all brothers and sisters, and son’s and daughter’s to one, no need for a name, we all know who He is. I believe that only time c
