The themes, which are presented, both throughout the movie and in the distinct and unique production of the film, have contributed to its victory. The unique production style used throughout the movie is easily intriguing, as Luhrmann allows his viewers to closely interact with the characters and give insight into their role in the film. At the beginning of the film, the editing is very sharp, as it quickly shoots from a musical scene with Scott dancing, to what appears to be a ‘one on one’ interview with certain characters of the film. This allows the audience to interact and to become more familiar with the characters. It allows us to have an insight into the characters and what their opinions are of their fellow actors roles
Strictly Ballroom has very unique and distinct production styles, surreal love story plot and symbolism of dance as a form of art have all led to its overwhelming success. The tension between individuality and conformity is what it all comes down to…being yourself, expressing yourself in a game that leaves no room for imagination or interpretation takes courage and love, which are all the characteristics that the film presents. Strictly Ballroom is one of the most successful films of all time. Strictly Ballroom’s plot is one that every girl would have dreamt about. Throwing away all of your fears and following your heart, doing something you love, whilst in the meanwhile falling in love. The plot of Strictly Ballroom draws the audience into a surreal environment, where is seems like anything is possible, which is a characteristic of the film which has led to its success. The transformation of Fran, from being a boring woman who seems to have no personality or goals reached or set in her life, is one which people love to see develop. Being able to watch Fran transform from this dull lifeless woman transform into a beautiful, confident dancer leaves the audience feeling warm hearted; but it isn’t just the image that the audience have in their heads after watching the film, just watching the film is like you’re being drawn into a land of dreams and fairytales, which is one all girls would dream of. The environment and that magical place we are drawn into throughout the film is one of the characteristics that have led to its success.
