The F.T.A.A
Trade is something that we do everyday. Trade is done on both small and large scales all around the world. When we talk about Free Trade Area of the America’s we are looking at the largest international trade between countries. Canada should join the Free Trade Area of the America’s because it creates a good bond and strong trusting relationships with other large powerful countries. Also, we would be trading at such a higher and more powerful level because so many more countries are trading. Lastly, it will help to improve border systems creating happier consumers and large corporations. The Free Trade Area of the America’s is a huge benefit for Canada and we should take advantage of our chance to trade at more powerful level. What is the Free Trade Area of the America’s? The Free Trade Area of the America’s is the expansion of the North American Free Trade Agreement to every country in Central America, South America, and the Caribbean, excluding Cuba. Negotiations began right after the completion of the NAFTA in 1994 and are to be completed by 2005 (Global exchange). The FTAA is another example of the kind of free trade fundamentalism that has created global race to the bottom that erodes environmental protection, w
For both Canada and the U.S. to be able to trade with thirty-two other countries there are something’s that need to occur between the two countries first. Firstly, Canada already shares a perimeter with the United States. Geography, economics, demographics, shared political and social values, common security arrangements and challenges, and joint economic arrangements and goals define their border (Hart, Michael). Canada should join the FTAA but not until trade has become something we are capable of. Also the countries that are all involved in the Free Trade Area of the Americas are some of the most powerful countries in the world. They control trading power throughout both the Western and Eastern Hemisphere. The FTAA would help expand U.S access to the Western Hemisphere markets, which would help benefit our local markets. Also, FTAA will increase purchasing power for working families and provide greater choice in the marketplace. It is estimated that the average family of four would see an income gain of $814 per year from goods and services liberalization in the FTAA. The people who are most effects by the FTAA, the consumers, will pay less on items because there will be no tariffs on items traded within the 34 countries. Also, Free Trade would help to boost the GDP throughout the Hemisphere (Poloz, Stephen). Also, since we implemented NAFTA, we have seen an enormous increase, which is likely to jump even more with the FTAA (Poloz, Stephen). This is very beneficial to all 34 countries involved because they would see extreme improvements in their trade and agricultural growth. Suppose that FTAA has the kind of increase in trade penetration exp
