“We’ve all seen the tragic headlines screaming of the death of a teenager who was killed for a pair of sneakers or jewelry or a designer jacket. In Detroit a 15-year old boy was shot for his $86 basketball shoes. In Fort Lauderdale a 15-year old student was robbed of his jewelry. Just this past December in Oxon Hill, Maryland, a 17-year old honor student was killed at a bus stop, caught in the cross fire during the robbery of another students designer jacket" ( Bill Clinton, "Transcript," 1-2). School uniforms are a major point of discussion in public schools today. Many schools have already adopted a policy requiring school uniforms, and many more schools are thinking about it. School uniforms greatly benefit both the students and faculty by creating an atmosphere in which the students are able to get the most out of their education. They would encourage more concentration on studies and a sense of security in the school. Uniforms would also reduce drugs and violence
My last and final reason for believing in school uniforms is that they will keep the students safer. If all students are dressed identically, a trespasser will be easy to identify. If there is a stranger on the school property, it is important that he or she is found. It’s dangerous to have someone wandering around the school because that person is a threat to the schools and student’s safety. The state has already seen this as a threat, causing it to make anyone who enters the school to sign in and get a visitors pass. School is supposed to be a safe and peaceful environment for children, and uniforms will help protect the students. It is clear that there are many advantages to having uniforms in a public school, and I believe that all schools should have them. They would make schools better places for kids to learn, and they would help raise the students’ academic achievement. Studies have shown that uniforms reduce violence in the schools,
