Fate/ Freewill

It was early in the morning, and Carlos Sanchez was already late for work. He had been working late the night before, and it was hard for him to wake up. He rushed off down the street and barely made the bus. Once he got on the bus and found a seat, he began flipping through a newspaper. He stopped on a page that had a beautiful house on it. He sat there admiring the picture, and thought to himself, “Maybe one day I’ll see a real house like that.” After about ten seconds he looked up, and realized it was almost his stop. He got off and walked across the street to his job, at Taco Bell.

Around 7:00 p.m. Carlos went to take the garbage out. When emptying one of the garbage’s, a piece of gum fell on the ground, by his feet. Without noticing, he stepped right on it. On his way in, a beam of light shining down on a piece of paper caught his attention. Finding that a bit interesting, he went and picked up the paper. He


After about two months he received a court date summons. The paper explained that the lottery ticket that he had, wasn’t his, that it was in fact some lady’s ticket, and that she had dropped it that day at Taco Bell. Carlos froze. Either she was telling the truth or she wasn’t. If she was, he would lose everything, be in debt, homeless, and jobless. If she wasn’t, then he’d be fine.

“Eleven point seven million…,” mumbled Carlos. The first month went by so quickly, and he felt like a new man. Since there were other winners, and money had to be taken out for taxes, Carlos only walked away with about 2.3 million. But who would complain? Carlos had so many dreams and things he wanted. He bought a beautiful house, like the one in the newspaper in a nice part of the city. He also quit his jobs, and decided to do some traveling for a couple of months, and then go back to school.
