Looking For Richard

The documentary ?Looking for Richard?, directed by Al Pacino, shows us the viewpoint of many actors, experts and normal people with regards to Shakespeare, using the play ?Richard III? to gather enough of these people. So, one may ask, what was the purpose of this documentary, and what can you learn from it? The answer, simply put, is: a whole lot. This essay will explain why Pacino made the movie, what various types of people think of Shakespearean plays, as well as the importance of his plays today, in the modern times.

Firstly, Pacino had a purpose in directing ?Looking for Richard?. Al Pacino admires Shakespeare?s work, and also enjoys playing parts in his plays. However, he believes, and rightfully so, that not enough people give Shakespeare a chance, and for this reason, miss out on the many masterpieces he wrote. Thirdly, there is an importance that Shakespeare still keeps in the present day and age. In Shakespeare?s day, the mainstream form of visual entertainment was the play. After many centuries have passed, until today, there have been changes. Today, television and movies are what everyone watches. So, remaking popular Shakespeare?s works into the current-day?s form of media is essential to assure that his classis works are not forgotten, but rather introduced to future generations. It?s also a good way to teach people how the language was in the past. According the documentary, the Shakespearean language contains much more emotion and feeling than today?s? language. I personally don?t believe more emotion went into their language than it is today. I do however believe that more thought went into what they said, and the people in his days put an importance in how they spoke, and made sure to use the best sounding, most impressive way of saying what they meant. These two reasons are why Shakespeare is important in the present day.
