Celebrities aren’t the best role models A role model is an outstanding individual who contributes back to life. Why do these people called celebrities would contribute in my life? Very simple, because media makes us see these people as a model we have to follow. The media manipulates our minds to see these people as heroes. Celebrities are in an obvious position to influence others. We see celebrities as our models in fashion, beauty, habits, acquisitions and others. Celebrities aren’t exactly the best role models. If we idolize positive role models, we decide we want to be like these people. If we choose negative role models, such as persons who exhibit habits that are socially unacceptable and harmful to us, we are only asking for trouble. There are many examples of negative role models that public adore. Some examples for this category are some famous artists such as Jim Morrisson, Kurt Cobain (former Nirvana lead singer) and Janis Joplin. What do these 3 people have in common? They are adored, remembered and considered legends. As much as we might admire these talented people, we cannot use their talents as examples of their morality or good judgment. This has been going on for decades, and it must end soon. Pe

A divorce is as common as drinking a Sprite. Adolescence may look at marriage as a hobby. Young people today face more intense and challenging pressures than other generations. We still control our lives, but some of our decisions may slightly change its course because media manipulates us. As an example of these is when we read a magazine or watch television we see that female role models are shrinking sizes. The new fashion wave is to be skinny. We want to be like them. If we have a few pounds on, we got to loose them, otherwise our self-esteem would be dragging in the floor. When Oprah Winfrey lost 50 pounds, we wanted to be skinny just like her. Also when Jennifer Lopez became famous for her large backside, we wanted to be like her and started exercising to have it just like her. We want to act like them, dress like them or be like them. We look up to celebrities to be beautiful. When we read a magazine we want to know Madonna’s tips to be in shape, or Catherine Zeta-Jones hair products. We want to be beautiful like them because these artists ha
