And then there were none

And Then There Were None, was written by Agatha Christie. It was published in 1939: by Berkley Publishing Group in New York, New York. This book is a work of fiction.

The setting of this book is an island off the coast of England called Indian Island. This is where the mysterious letters invited people to go for a visit. The setting impacts the work because the characters are on an island, so when people start to die they have no way of getting off. The island setting is more dramatic than a town or city.

The main character in the book is Mr. Justice Wargrave. He was lately retired from the bench. When he went to the island he was the one who everyone looked up to for support. He was the one who you could turn to if you needed a favor. Mr. Wargrave was also the one person who calmed everyone down after another murder had taken place. He seemed to be the smartest of the bunch, and was the only one who really looked at the clues closely and put the murders all together. The way he died was that he shot himself in the head. But at the end of the book we find out that he is the murderer.

The second main character in the book is Dr. Edward. Armstrong. He could be called Mr. Justice Wargrave’s partner in crime. Bot

h of them blamed everyone else for the crimes. This was so nobody would suspect them of doing it. He really didn’t know what was happening most of the time. He was the one who carried out the rest of the murders after Mr. Justice Wargrave committed suicide. In the end Armstrong just disappeared and nobody knows what happened to him.

Agatha Christie has a very descriptive way of writing. She described each death perfectly. She uses graphic detail about how each person was murdered. Whether it was an ax to the back of the head or a person choking on something, the author illustrates every little detail.

That night a record played and nobody knew where it came from. The record mentioned each person in the house and someone that they had been involved with who had died. Everyone was shocked at what had just happened. Later that evening, the butler’s wife was found dead. She was the first one to get murdered in this rampage. The people on the i
