Daycare center

I learned about policies, procedures and the needs that are met for each child. The most important thing I learned was through observation of the different age groups, in different rooms, and with staff members.
Among many observations, some are very important in my opinion. Some of these were warm and friendly interactions between the children and staff including the staff treating all children equally and trying to accommodate their individual needs. I also saw most members of the daycare staff respecting the diversity or background of the children and treating both sexes without bias. Another view I saw was teachers using a positive approach in guidance and discipline, which I believe is very important in childcare.
The Daycare's program of instruction was also very clear. I saw it planned to reflect the philosophy and goals for children of all ages. The program also included various learning experiences appropriate for each child. Their program also fosters personal and social development, fine and gross motor skills, creative development and aesthetic awareness.
Children were treated very well as I observed for approximately an hour. Most of the time I observed the Four-year old room. I did this because this is the age group I hope to work with in my future career. I saw them playing well with each other with minimal disputes, which are common. I was also able to play with this age group after their afternoon circle time. It was very nice outside, so the teacher and aide decided to take the children to the outside playground. The playground they were on was for their age group to school age. There is also another for younger children at the center. A staff member told me that they try to take the children outside twice a day for about thirty minutes. Many of the children played on their own while many wanted the teachers (and I) to push them on a swing or play with them in the sand box.
