In 1961 Mr. Leahy earned his B.A. from St. Michael’s College, and in 1964 he earned his J.D. from Georgetown University. That same year, Mr. Leahy was admitted to the Vermont Bar. While in law school, Leahy married Marcelle Pomerleau. Since then, they have had three children: Kevin, Alicia, and Mark. In 1974, Leahy became the first Democrat to win a United States Senate seat from Vermont; furthermore, he was the youngest person elected from the state.
