Information and Data (examples of and difference).End User ICT: The best way to present a piece of information will depend upon the purpose, who it is for and what info is being presented. Ie Stats = graph/chart / table. Computer software can be used to present information. Computers do not work with information. Information is something which has a meaning. As computers are machines they can not understand the meaning of sentences like "Jane was born on the 14/06/75". Instead computers just store sequences of letters and numbers. They do not know what these sequences mean. The sequences which the computer stores are called data. Information : Something which has a meaning to a human being. Data : Numbers, words etc. which have no meaning by themselves. In fact computers can only store the numbers 0 and 1 in their memories. Letters and other numbers must be encoded as sequences of 0s and 1s (called binary) before they can be stored.
