This shows the commitment of the characters. There is so many things going on in this book trying to choose a golden line seemed almost impossible. I think that a lot of the reason why so many people supported Trujillo is because they did not take his personal life into consideration when they were thinking about the way that he was going to end up ruling their country. The Mirabal sisters thought a lot about life and the way that things need to be done. They made plenty of commitments and they were satisfied with the things that they had and were provided with. When she is saying this she is thinking so innocently about who and what Trujillo is about when in fact that later on in her life she is going to finally understand what she has to do and how she is going to have to make the things that she has learned last for a long time in the life that she has provided for herself.

Page 39- "I see a guardia, and I think, who have you killed. I hear a police siren, and I think who is going to be killed. See what I mean?"

The life that they were living in this time was one that we cannot even fathom. There were things that they had to see and
