The renaissance is known as a time of great change, which produced many great minds. During this time period, society was transformed into one of increasingly dominated by central political institutions with an urban attitude. People’s curiosity overcame their fear and many people began to explore and try new things out. It was so evident that new schools and colleges became more and more common. If we look back in history, we can see that many great minds prospered during this time period. Of those, was a man named Leonardo Da Vinci. Da Vinci was a man that let his curiosity took him to many places. Many ingenious people consider his ideas and thoughts to this day. His ability to make things beyond his time enabled him to be one of the highly esteemed people even to this day. It is belief by many, that Da Vinci was the leading icon in the Renaissance. In the work for the Duke’s castle Da Vinci experimented with horses’ forelegs and measurements. Leonardo also had much advancement in the medical field. He is credited with the first use of the cross section. A popular and easy way that became available to diagram the human anatomy. Leonardo wrote, “The painter who has acquired the nature of the sinews, muscles, and tendons will know exactly in the movement of any limb, how many and which of the sinews are the cause of it, and which muscle by its swelling is the cause of the sinew’s contracting. The amazing thing about Da Vinci was that he was never finished completely with on piece of work. He constantly had to redesign and rework his drawings, studies, and mechanical stories. Scientist’s have even came to the conclusion that his work in the oberservation of water is very accurate. Leonardo also had very accurate studies of how flow patterns formed to create pools. By using current slow motion cameras, scientists are able to study what Da Vinci was able to tell with, with just the use of a naked eye.

Da Vinci is esteemed as one of the cleverest people to have lived on this planet. That is an excessive compliment considering the great minds that have lived during the years. He was a man of many traits. His contributions in areas like art, science, and humanity are still among the most important that a single living being could have put forth. It is remarkable to think how many things a single person can create. Da Vinci was so ahead of his time that everyone thought that he was crazy or had something wrong with him. Only now, do we realize how truly smart and skillful of man Da Vinci was.

From childhood, Da Vinci was always fascinated with the idea of flight. In early research, Da Vinci envisioned machines with bird like wings. These machines would stay in the air, like birds, by using their mechanical wings. Da Vinci made the machine controlled by the force of the pilot or whoever was in charge when flying these machines. Da Vinci also pondered the idea of having the pilot in an upright fashion where they had to move the craft by moving their hands and legs. Da Vinci’s flight studies increased when he began examining birds and their bodies. He examined how the birds didn’t rely on their wings but on how the air currents moved. Da Vinci was able to integrate aerology and meteorology. Da Vinci was so into air flight that he designed instruments to measure air resistance in flight. Thanks to these inventions our planes are able to fly today. Leonardo made a lot of very intriguing comparisons. He compared flight to swimming and air to water. He believed that the same motion was needed in swimming that was needed in flying(Leonardo Studies on Flight).

Leonardo lived to be about sixty-seven years old. What’s interesting is that it is not documented that Da Vinci had ever married or had any children of his own. Da Vinci was so critical of women that he only saw them as “reproductive mechanisms”. If there would be one trait that would highlight the life of Da Vinci, it would be his curiosity of life and how things worked.
