Blow is a movie based on a true story. It chronicles the life of George Jung, who was the largest importer of Columbian Cocaine in the 1970’s and 1980’s. The movie shows dreadful impacts that drugs had on George’s life. He went from one of the biggest cocaine dealers making millions of dollars to the lonely hearted convict, which he is now and will remain until the year 2015. Cocaine affects the life of the user very much so. George Jung’s life was affected greatly by cocaine. He had over 30 million dollars and he still wanted to make more because of the effects cocaine had on him. George’s whole family was effected by the use and dealing of the drug. George’s best friend, Diego, stole his connection, and began to move a lot of cocaine behind his back. When George confronted Diego about this, Diego had some of his bodyguards beat George nearly to death. This made George want out, so he quit the business. He stayed clean for five years after having his daughter, Kristina. George’s wife, Martha, was tired of living a boring life and not ever having no fun, so on George’s 38th birthday, she threw a party for him. She invited all of his old friends. They brought a bunch of cocaine as party gifts. George’s wife acted so happy when she seen the cocaine. This shows how much she had missed it after those couple of years. That night, George was busted by the DEA. Waiters in disguise were waiting for George to slip up. All of George’s so called friends claimed to know nothing about the cocaine, so George was charge with it. This destroyed George’s family and really took a piece out of George. His wife divorced him, and his daughter hated the fact that her father had lied to her. George’s parents were also disappointed. George’s father knew what George had been up to, but he wouldn’t ever tell George what to do. He wanted George to decide for himself. His mother disowned him. She had nothing to do with him. George Jung still remains in prison today, and his daughter has never been to see him. All of these situations are caused from drug use and addiction. If George had quit the first time he was busted, he would not be where he is today.

Marijuana and cocaine are known for their great feelings of sensation, but when used they have many different effects on the body, mind, and society of the user. When marijuana is consumed (smoked, drank, eaten), the THC in the marijuana affects the brain and produces disturbances of perception. It also produces a heightening of mood and sometimes relaxation, with the mind full of ideas. These are the consisting psychoactive effects. The physical effects are not long term. The most common are increase in appetite, laziness, redness of the eyes, irritation to the throat, dry mouth, and sometimes nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea are produced. We see these physical effects in Blow when George and a few of his friends are sitting around his house smoking. The eyes on all of them are blood shot, and they are laughing talking about how stoned one another are. Cocaine on the other hand has different effects than marijuana. It is know for its stimulant effects of excitability, increased energy, and talkativeness. George Jung shows us these side effects when he is in Columbia loading up an airplane with cocaine.
