Allied Weapons of WWII
Many people believe that some of the most important events and developments in World War Two, were the D-day landing, the atomic bomb and the list could continue on like this. Truly if it was not for the developments in small arms the war might have held a different ending, for the fact that over seventy five percent of the war was fought by the infantry man on the ground says that it was his weapon that changed the course of the war. Both countries were equally successful in the implementation of their weapons and there successful timing of entry.During the course of the war and in the years before it, the United States brought forth many new designs and developments in the field of small arms. The United States found their new rifle the M1 Garand design to be battle ready and approved to be introduced to the United States Army. The United States Army also adopted a new sub machine gun the M1A1 Thompson or "Tommy Gun". Also adopted was the M1 Carbine which was most often used by warrant officers and paratroopers. The M1 Garand was the first semi-automatic rifle to ever become a countries primary service rifle, until this the thought of ever soldier carry a semi-automatic rifle was unheard of by the nations in the war
