blink 182 is not a sellout
Despite popular opinion, the band Blink182 is not a sellout. Many fans of punk rock condemn the band for it’s success and radio play. If making it big is selling out, then, who would not sell out? An individual on a message board posted, “ I agree that blink182 is horrible, but I am sick of hearing kids refer to bands as sellouts. Who gives a f___? I will listen to any band as long as it sounds good to me“ ( pop ). The fact is, the term sellout is applied too freely and is a hyperbole. A true sellout is something blink182 is not. Selling out is changing dramatically and going against ones fans for worldly pleasures such as money and fame. Some people pin this on blink182 because of it’s extensive line of paraphernalia, and the inflation of ticket pricing. A message board post reads, “ A band is a sellout when it starts making super expensive shirts, folders, hats, or anything just to make profit. Before it was popular, you could get a CD for five dollars and get into it’s shows for three, but now a CD is fifteen dollars and a ticket is thirty. That is what a sellout is” ( Korn ).
